The Game
The Gifted is taking a step beyond the static storytelling of the comic. I have also designed a roll-playing campaign set in the world of the Gifted that will allow participants to create and follow their own stories. This section of the Gifted site is a repository of rules, resources and story information for use in the campaign.

Information regarding the setting of the campaign, including important places, people and groups may be found in the Background section. Information on player characters may be found in the Players section. Summaries of the players' adventures will be included in the Journal section.

FORUM

The Gifted rollplaying game will be an online campaign using the Roleplay Online forum.

There are a number of reasons why I'm running this as an online campaign. Most importantly, it allows me a great deal of flexibility with my schedule. However, there are some additional aspects of online roleplaying that really enjoyable. While an online campaign may move more slowly than a tabletop game, it runs continually and it allows players to be more or less involved based on their own availability and interest. It caters to both casual and serious players. Some may post once a day, while others may post several times. It also provides the opportunity for players to act individually, in separate groups, or together as a single party. It's even possible to have different players actively opposing each other.

It opens up a lot of storytelling opportunities.

SYSTEM

The Gifted campaign will use the Mutants & Masterminds RPG system developed by Green Ronin Publishing. It is highly recommended that players acquire the M&M sourcebook. However, for those that are unable to, I will assist in the process of character creation and in gameplay. Those that are familiar with D&D 3rd Edition will find that the rules are easy to pick up.

Detail guidance for the development of player characters is included in the Character Creation section. House rules for message posting and gameplay are summarized in the Rules section.

GETTING STARTED

Those interested in joining the game should contact me by e-mail at infidel@thegifted.com. I will let you know whether there are current openings in the game. If so, then take the following steps:

Write up a character concept using the guidance in the Character Creation section. Do not write-up a detailed character record at this time, as all character concepts first need GM approval. Just summarize your name, background, motivations and your general abilities. Tell me what kind of activities your character is interested in. I will respond with input and advice, and will explain any limitations that I feel are necessary to maintain game balance.

Set up an account on Roleplay Online and familiarize yourself with the FAQs on its use (if you haven't used it before). Browse through a few game boards and get a feel for how games are run. Find the game in the "Super Hero" section and use the "Request Access" function (the link is on the right above the list of topics) to submit your request to join the game. Read through the guidance on posting for the Gifted campaign in the Rules section.

Once your character concept has been approved, download the Gifted character record in the Character Creation section and complete your detailed character write-up. The record sheet is in Excel format, and has been designed to automatically calculate power point allocation to various abilities and powers. If you don't have access to the Mutants & Masterminds Sourcebook or Excel, please let me know and I can assist you in drafting your character record. Once you have completed your character record, e-mail it to me at infidel@thegifted.com. I will review it and respond with any questions or comments.

Once your character has been approved, the GM will introduce you to the game and you can begin posting.

If you'd like, provide a picture of your character. It doesn't matter whether it is one that you've found or created yourself. You can submit it to me and I will include it along with your character's background in the Players section. You can also submit a picture to Roleplay Online and use it in your posts. See the guidelines for portrait submissions in the site help FAQs.

It's that simple!
